Happy Birthday Kobe

First a little politics. We received the article below in an e-mail today from the Citizens against Government Waste:

Rep. Maxine Waters is CAGW’s June Porker of the Month Washington, D.C. - Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) today named Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) its June Porker of the Month. Rep. Waters has provoked a tussle with House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey (D-Wis.) over her intention to obtain an earmark for the Maxine Waters Employment Preparation Center, a facility within the Los Angeles school system.

Rep. Waters’ grandiose gesture is a reminder that Congress still has not banned the practice of earmarking taxpayer funds for pork projects, including monuments, academic facilities, roads, airports and water projects, which they name after themselves. The practice, colloquially tagged as “Monuments to Me,” became the subject of scathing news reports in 2007 when House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles B. Rangel (D-N.Y.) was exposed for his $2 million earmark for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service, the Rangel Conference Center, and the Charles Rangel Library at the City College of New York. It came up again in the recent weeks, when news stories cropped up questioning how $150 million in earmarks over the last 10 years were secured to fund the construction and maintenance of the nearly-deserted John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.

To his credit, Chairman Obey appears to grasp that such narcissistic expenditures fuel the negative image of Congress and is trying to proactively keep them out of the fiscal year 2010 appropriations bills. One reason for his epiphany is that Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) has successfully attached amendments to ban such projects on several appropriations bills. A June 15, 2009 story in Roll Call by Steven T. Dennis and Tory Newmyer reported that Chairman Obey got the full brunt of Rep. Waters’ ire in a closed-door meeting after he announced that he wanted to prohibit the practice except when someone was “dying.” Rep. Waters defended the earmark by saying “the employment center had been named after her before she came to Congress in 1991.” It remains unclear whether Chairman Obey has succeeded in standing up to Rep. Waters and other members that are seeking similar projects.

To placate her need for recognition and the desire of some members of Congress to leave behind a living legacy, even one that is built with pork-barrel earmarks, CAGW happily obliges, endowing Rep. Waters with the coveted June Porker of the Month.

Citizens Against Government Waste is the nation's largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government. Porker of the Month is a dubious honor given to lawmakers, government officials, and political candidates who have shown a blatant disregard for the interests of taxpayers.

Cap and Tax

On Friday, the House of Representatives narrowly passed the Cap and Tax plan. Forty-four Democrats voted against it; eight Republicans voted for it. Those eight votes passed the legislation. The bill was approximately 1200 pages -- none of the politicians had time to read it, yet passed it anyway. The real fight is coming to the Senate in September. We have to stand up and fight against this intrusive legislation. Start now to call and write your senators. They need to understand that we will not re-elect them if they vote for this huge tax and violation of our fourth amendment rights. The fourth amendment protects us from unlawful searches and seizures; the Cap and Tax plan will allow inspectors into our homes to check our lightbulbs, thermostats, and any other personal items that are none of their business.

This link to Glenn Beck's site shows the House of Representatives and the vote they cast on Friday. Thank those who voted against it and write or call those who voted for it to let them know that you will not vote for them in the future.

Timely Lies

Below is a timely article regarding climate change from Meridian magazine at www.ldsmag.com. We have often remarked to each other how Satan takes truth and develops his own lies to mask the truth. In this case he is hiding God's signs of His second coming with global warming. Let's not be deceived.

Global Warming—A Clever Inoculation?
By Gary C. Lawrence

Air France flight 447 from Rio to Paris had only been missing a few hours before someone declared that the doomed jet was a victim of global warming.

What won’t they blame on it next?

When global warming enters the scene stage left, fingers point in all directions:

Hard science or theory?

An urgent reason to rein in greenhouse gas emissions or the nothing-to-panic-about ups and downs of normal climate cycles?

An opportunity to save the planet from disaster and win the Nobel prize or an opportunity to institute massive cap-and-trade taxes to fund new government programs?

Or … an opportunity to cleverly inoculate mankind against the messages God intends for us prior to the Second Coming of the Savior?

Christ has told us of many physical phenomena that will occur in the last days. No secrets here. The whole world could know them if they would but read the scriptures:

Earthquakes in many places
The earth will reel to and fro
Seas will heave their bounds
A great hailstorm will destroy the crops of the earth
The sun will be darkened and the moon turned to blood
Fires and drought
A desolating sickness
A plague of flies
Marvelous signs in the heavens

Why the physical tweets? To warn God’s misbehaving children and to prepare a righteous people to meet Christ at the Second Coming.

So what would someone do if he wanted to thwart the impact of these warnings – to prevent someone from connecting the dots and getting God’s message?

There are three ways:

Deny the event
Deny the source
Deny the meaning

The first denial – “What earthquake?” – is obviously a non-starter. No one who suffers one is dumb enough to say it didn’t happen.

The second denial – “There was an earthquake, but it wasn’t caused by God” – provides a comfortable way to avoid thinking about messages.

The third denial has a yes-but twist: “Yes, it happened, and yes it came from God, but the message God is delivering is not what you think it is.”

How to get people to buy in to at least one of these denials? Patient inoculation over many years – the process of conditioning people to view anything and everything through a comfortable, politically correct set of glasses.

To a boy with a hammer, everything looks like a nail. To Americans in 2009, everything looks like global warming.

The strategy is simple. If people can be brought to believe that mankind is the cause of global warming, which has been drummed into us for two decades, then whatever disaster may be sent from God will be interpreted in global warming terms – it’s our own fault – and people will feel justified in ignoring the wake-up call, if they even pause to think in did-it-come-from-God terms.

So when these prophesied disasters happen, people will not see them as signs to turn their hearts to God:

Earthquakes? “That’s what global warming can do.”
Hailstorm? “Obviously the fault of global warming.”
Seas heaving their bounds? “Our carbon emissions caused it.”
Sun darkened? “There’s that global warming again.”
Plague of flies? “It was our use of fossil fuels.”
Fires and drought? “Ho-hum, just global warming.”
So intense has been this focus, that when the Savior returns to the earth, the Los Angeles Times headline will probably read, “Savior Ushers in Millennium; Impact on Global Warming Undetermined.”

In the smothering news coverage of global warming, many who deign to grant God a possible role in the prophesied physical phenomena are more likely to interpret His message as “don’t buy SUVs” than “don’t commit adultery.”

A monkey wrench in the inoculation plan is that the global warming theory is losing luster. As more experts acknowledge that global warming models cannot reverse-predict this year’s climate from yesteryear’s data, some scientists are even saying we should now be concerned about global cooling, a return to the fears of a new ice age so much in vogue in the 1960s and 1970s. Maybe they’ll soon claim that global warming causes global cooling.

Recent events illustrate the inconvenient data – the coldest June on record in Chicago, the first June snow in North Dakota in 60 years, frosts in Brazil, and even a snowstorm in Saudi Arabia.

So what’s it to be – global warming or global cooling?

What about both? Let’s be alarmed if the temperature rises and let’s be alarmed if it drops. Let’s fear … climate change.

Head for the hills. The climate is changing! The climate is changing!

How silly is this going to get? Since when has the climate not changed in this direction or that? Are we doomed to live in constant alarm?

The author of the inoculation against the signs of the last days would hope so.

Knowing not what they do, the inoculation folks dutifully bang the climate-change hammer against the bottom of society’s canary cage to keep us in a constant state of agitation. The result: a people dulled to perceive the true intent and message of the coming physical phenomena.

Perhaps not all climatic events will contain a specific message from God, but when He tells us that He will send certain signs to warn His children to shape up, we would be well advised to err on the side of careful thought rather than automatic denial.

Global warming and climate change – convenient excuses to ignore God’s intended messages.

Democrats! Sheesh!!!

Calling All Fed's

It's time to call your representatives in Washington -- TODAY. The House will be voting in the next 48 hours on the cap and trade tax. This same plan is a horrible failure in Europe right now and costs a fortune to taxpayers. We need to shut down the switchboards in Washington and overload their servers with our emails.

The Truth Watch

Reality Bites, Mr. President

Apparently, Obama's made-up world isn't working in reality where the rest of the world resides. He thought he could talk North Korea and Iran down from the tops of their nuclear plants and convince them to just say 'no' to nukes. It's not playing well on the world screen, though.

Here's more on that topic: http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/reality-bites-—-doesnt-it-mr-president/

Here's Five More Myths That the Left Has Created About Itself by John Hawkins.

The following is from www.americansforprosperity.org:

Crunch time on Cap-and-Trade: House vote this week!

The Hill is reporting today that Democrats have reached an agreement to move forward with a House vote on the huge cap-and-trade energy tax known as Waxman-Markey this week. The details aren't known yet, but you can bet that this already-disastrous bill that will send energy prices skyrocketing while having no discernible impact on global average temperature will only get worse as even more special interests are bought off at the expense of taxpayers.

It's crucial that you contact your Congressman immediately and tell him to vote no cap-and-trade. You can call the Capitol switchboard at 202-225-3121 or use this form right here on our web site. Grassroots can make the difference!

This Land is OUR Land!

A couple of days ago, we posted a letter that Janet Contreras sent to Glenn Beck. We also posted the link for a petition to sign to send the letter to our elected officials. When we checked the petition website later in the day, this message was posted:

This petition, An Open Letter to our Nation's Leadership, is so popular that it is overwhelming our servers, and we have had to temporarily close it. We hope to re-open it soon. Please check back.

We were disheartened that the site had to shut down for a while, but we were also encouraged that so many had wanted to sign the petition. The goal is for 100,000 signatures. We just checked and in only two days, the petition has 85,475 signatures! We hope that the 100,000 goal is reached and exceeded beyond anyone's expectation. The letter and the link to the petition are in our blog post previous to this one.

There are so many instances of the Obama administration acting as if they're above the law, and lying to cover their tracks that it's difficult to choose just one on which to comment. However, the recent firing of AmeriCorps' inspector general, Gerald Walpin, is a story that infuriates us. Mr. Walpin's job as an inspector general was to monitor the expenditure of taxpayer dollars received by AmericCorps. When Mr. Walpin's audits showed monetary irregularities and abuses by those who were running the St. HOPE charity, which is funded by AmericCorps, and he reported those irregularities to the proper authorities and recommended that AmericCorps receive no further taxpayer funding, he was fired. The St. HOPE charity was under the direction of Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, a strong Obama supporter. There are so many aspects to this story that just don't pass the smell test. We the People are Coming

Glenn Beck received the following letter, and he read it on his radio program yesterday. We couldn't have said it any better:

"I'm a home grown American citizen, 53, registered Democrat all my life. Before the last presidential election I registered as a Republican because I no longer felt the Democratic Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. Now I no longer feel the Republican Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. The fact is I no longer feel any political party or representative in Washington represents my views or works to pursue the issues important to me. There must be someone. Please tell me who you are. Please stand up and tell me that you are there and that you're willing to fight for our Constitution as it was written. Please stand up now. You might ask yourself what my views and issues are that I would horribly feel so disenfranchised by both major political parties. What kind of nut job am I? Will you please tell me?

Well, these are briefly my views and issues for which I seek representation:

One, illegal immigration. I want you to stop coddling illegal immigrants and secure our borders. Close the underground tunnels. Stop the violence and the trafficking in drugs and people. No amnesty, not again. Been there, done that, no resolution. P.S., I'm not a racist. This isn't to be confused with legal immigration.

Two, the TARP bill, I want it repealed and I want no further funding supplied to it. We told you no, but you did it anyway. I want the remaining unfunded 95% repealed. Freeze, repeal.

Three: Czars, I want the circumvention of our checks and balances stopped immediately. Fire the czars. No more czars. Government officials answer to the process, not to the president. Stop trampling on our Constitution and honor it.

Four, cap and trade. The debate on global warming is not over. There is more to say.

Five, universal healthcare. I will not be rushed into another expensive decision. Don't you dare try to pass this in the middle of the night and then go on break. Slow down!

Six, growing government control. I want states rights and sovereignty fully restored. I want less government in my life, not more. Shrink it down. Mind your own business. You have enough to take care of with your real obligations. Why don't you start there.

Seven, ACORN. I do not want ACORN and its affiliates in charge of our 2010 census. I want them investigated. I also do not want mandatory escrow fees contributed to them every time on every real estate deal that closes. Stop the funding to ACORN and its affiliates pending impartial audits and investigations. I do not trust them with taking the census over with our taxpayer money. I don't trust them with our taxpayer money. Face up to the allegations against them and get it resolved before taxpayers get any more involved with them. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, hello. Stop protecting your political buddies. You work for us, the people. Investigate.

Eight, redistribution of wealth. No, no, no. I work for my money. It is mine. I have always worked for people with more money than I have because they gave me jobs. That is the only redistribution of wealth that I will support. I never got a job from a poor person. Why do you want me to hate my employers? Why ‑‑ what do you have against shareholders making a profit?
Nine, charitable contributions. Although I never got a job from a poor person, I have helped many in need. Charity belongs in our local communities, where we know our needs best and can use our local talent and our local resources. Butt out, please. We want to do it ourselves.

Ten, corporate bailouts. Knock it off. Sink or swim like the rest of us. If there are hard times ahead, we'll be better off just getting into it and letting the strong survive. Quick and painful. Have you ever ripped off a Band‑Aid? We will pull together. Great things happen in America under great hardship. Give us the chance to innovate. We cannot disappoint you more than you have disappointed us.

Eleven, transparency and accountability. How about it? No, really, how about it? Let's have it. Let's say we give the buzzwords a rest and have some straight honest talk. Please try ‑‑ please stop manipulating and trying to appease me with clever wording. I am not the idiot you obviously take me for. Stop sneaking around and meeting in back rooms making deals with your friends. It will only be a prelude to your criminal investigation. Stop hiding things from me.

Twelve, unprecedented quick spending. Stop it now.

Take a breath. Listen to the people. Let's just slow down and get some input from some nonpoliticians on the subject. Stop making everything an emergency. Stop speed reading our bills into law. I am not an activist. I am not a community organizer. Nor am I a terrorist, a militant or a violent person. I am a parent and a grandparent. I work. I'm busy. I'm busy. I am busy, and I am tired. I thought we elected competent people to take care of the business of government so that we could work, raise our families, pay our bills, have a little recreation, complain about taxes, endure our hardships, pursue our personal goals, cut our lawn, wash our cars on the weekends and be responsible contributing members of society and teach our children to be the same all while living in the home of the free and land of the brave.

I entrusted you with upholding the Constitution. I believed in the checks and balances to keep from getting far off course. What happened? You are very far off course. Do you really think I find humor in the hiring of a speed reader to unintelligently ramble all through a bill that you signed into law without knowing what it contained? I do not. It is a mockery of the responsibility I have entrusted to you. It is a slap in the face. I am not laughing at your arrogance. Why is it that I feel as if you would not trust me to make a single decision about my own life and how I would live it but you should expect that I should trust you with the debt that you have laid on all of us and our children. We did not want the TARP bill. We said no. We would repeal it if we could. I am sure that we still cannot. There is such urgency and recklessness in all of the recent spending.

From my perspective, it seems that all of you have gone insane. I also know that I am far from alone in these feelings. Do you honestly feel that your current pursuits have merit to patriotic Americans? We want it to stop. We want to put the brakes on everything that is being rushed by us and forced upon us. We want our voice back. You have forced us to put our lives on hold to straighten out the mess that you are making. We will have to give up our vacations, our time spent with our children, any relaxation time we may have had and money we cannot afford to spend on you to bring our concerns to Washington. Our president often knows all the right buzzword is unsustainable. Well, no kidding. How many tens of thousands of dollars did the focus group cost to come up with that word? We don't want your overpriced words. Stop treating us like we're morons.

We want all of you to stop focusing on your reelection and do the job we want done, not the job you want done or the job your party wants done. You work for us and at this rate I guarantee you not for long because we are coming. We will be heard and we will be represented. You think we're so busy with our lives that we will never come for you? We are the formerly silent majority, all of us who quietly work , pay taxes, obey the law, vote, save money, keep our noses to the grindstone and we are now looking up at you. You have awakened us, the patriotic spirit so strong and so powerful that it had been sleeping too long. You have pushed us too far. Our numbers are great. They may surprise you. For every one of us who will be there, there will be hundreds more that could not come. Unlike you, we have their trust. We will represent them honestly, rest assured. They will be at the polls on voting day to usher you out of office. We have cancelled vacations. We will use our last few dollars saved. We will find the representation among us and a grassroots campaign will flourish. We didn't ask for this fight. But the gloves are coming off. We do not come in violence, but we are angry. You will represent us or you will be replaced with someone who will. There are candidates among us [who will] rise like a Phoenix from the ashes that you have made of our constitution.

Democrat, Republican, independent, libertarian. Understand this. We don't care. Political parties are meaningless to us. Patriotic Americans are willing to do right by us and our Constitution and that is all that matters to us now. We are going to fire all of you who abuse power and seek more. It is not your power. It is ours and we want it back. We entrusted you with it and you abused it. You are dishonorable. You are dishonest. As Americans we are ashamed of you. You have brought shame to us. If you are not representing the wants and needs of your constituency loudly and consistently, in spite of the objections of your party, you will be fired. Did you hear? We no longer care about your political parties. You need to be loyal to us, not to them. Because we will get you fired and they will not save you. If you do or can represent me, my issues, my views, please stand up. Make your identity known. You need to make some noise about it. Speak up. I need to know who you are. If you do not speak up, you will be herded out with the rest of the sheep and we will replace the whole damn congress if need be one by one. We are coming. Are we coming for you? Who do you represent? What do you represent? Listen. Because we are coming. We the people are coming."

Hypocrisy Abounds

We now have proof that ABC is a biased network. Not that we didn't believe it already, but they are being rather blatant about it now. You can read the following article and judge for yourself, but keep in mind, if the government pursues any kind of fairness doctrine against talk radio, ABC's obvious disregard of any type of fairness should not be excluded from scrutiny.

The Truth Shall Set You Free

Wasn't Conservatism Supposed To Be Dead?

Gallup: Twice As Many Conservatives

Posted by Kyle Trygstad

From RealClearPolitics.com

Twice as many Americans interviewed so far this year in national Gallup surveys say they are conservative, rather than liberal. Even with the recent election of a liberal president who won 60 percent of the moderate vote -- and a fifth of the conservative vote -- the number of self-described conservatives has increased this year.

Gallup reports that 40 percent of interviewees this year said they were conservative, 35 percent moderate and 21 percent liberal. The number of conservatives hasn't shifted much in the last two decades -- from 1996 through 2004, between 39 and 40 percent described themselves as conservative -- though that number had dropped to 37 percent over the last three years.
While two-fifths of the population says it's conservative, more Americans consider themselves either Democrats or independents than Republicans. Interviews this year found that 37 percent are independents, 36 percent Democrats and 28 percent Republicans.

Vice Pres. Joe Biden Says They "Guessed Wrong" On Stimulus: Economy Worse Than Ever

by Jack Ryan

http://www.postchronicle.com/

In an interview with "Meet the Press" Vice President Joe Biden has come out to apologize about the government's plan with the stimulus. According to reports, Biden told "Meet The Press" that they all guessed wrong about the impact of the stimulus now that the economy is even worse off than before.

According to The Page, "Backs away from the estimate that the funds could create or save 3.5 million jobs, instead promises 600,000 by the end of the summer."

Biden was quoted with saying "No one realized how bad the economy was. The projections, in fact, turned out to be worse. But we took the mainstream model as to what we thought -- and everyone else thought -- the unemployment rate would be." Biden has also claimed that they have created jobs which could not have been created beforehand. (c)

Barack's Boo-Boos

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), via his Twitter account, lashing out at Obama for traveling abroad while legislators were left working on Obama?s health care plan over the weekend: "Pres Obama while u sightseeing in Paris u said 'time to delivr on healthcare' When you are a 'hammer' u think evrything is NAIL I'm no NAIL."

******

We're hearing today that all but one of the Republican senators on the Finance Committee shot down the idea of Obama's public health care plan, which means that he will have to reconsider his dreams of bipartisanship. Democrats are also divided, making negotiations about the controversial legislation even more iffy. Obama is pushing lawmakers to finish health care reform before the summer. We're hoping that this latest news will stall it forever.

******

We're also glad to hear that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg has stalled the sale of Chrysler to Fiat after multiple lawsuits were launched by Indiana state pension and construction funds, as well as from consumer groups. The major complaint is that the deal favors unsecured stakeholders as opposed to secured debt holders, and the constitutionality of the company's assistance from the the bailout money. Justice Ginsberg ruled that these suits have merit, so negotiators will have to rethink the ownership redistribution of Chrysler. Obama can't be happy about this move, since he admitted that he owes the unions for helping him get reelected, and the unions were getting a sweetheart deal in the bankruptcy reconfiguring.

******

Obama keeps saying that all of this government spending will create and/or save hundreds of thousands of jobs. The Department of Labor reported that 345,000 jobs were lost in May. Maybe Obama needs a new calculator, because something isn't adding up.

Unhealthy Government

Ever wonder how the government is accounting for the trillions of dollars --OUR dollars--that they're throwing around? Never fear--the Federal Reserve is here! Check out the mind-boggling video link below:

Here's more on the government's healthcare plan. While the plan is very depressing, there may be a silver lining -- perhaps Obamacare will help increase our faith as we are all driven to our knees to plead with God that we don't get sick.

Did Anyone Get the License Plate of the Bus?

Why is it that every time Barack Obama goes overseas, Americans are left feeling like they were just run over by a bus? His now-famous apology tour was the first time he spoke to Europeans after his coronation in January. Many of us were left wondering why we have to apologize to people whose lives (or, at least the lives of their ancestors) have been literally saved by Americans several times. They would all be speaking German right now if the Americans hadn't shown up to help them during World War II.

Now Obama is in the middle east telling them that it's not America's place to dictate to them how they live their lives and, for now on, we will stop dictating and start listening. What is it that we will be hearing in this listening mode? More planes flying into buildings? Suicide bombers exploding in crowded market places?

Evidently the end of America's "dictating" will apply to everyone but Israel. As Charles Krauthammer explains: "Israel is ordered to freeze all settlement activity. As Secretary of State Hillary Clinton imperiously explained the diktat: 'a stop to settlements -- not some settlements, not outposts, not natural-growth exceptions.'"

The Obama bus: never saw an American or Jew it didn't want to run over.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAUL (and a little politics, too)

Never forget that everything Hitler did in Germany was legal. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

John Hawkins has written an article entitled 5 Character Flaws That Are Destroying America's Future. This article hits the nail on the head. There are segments of our society who have become whiny, self-centered victims with an attitude of entitlement. If we are to have any hope of turning this country back to its roots, we need to weed out these attitudes.

Several TV and radio personalities have made the comparison between the media coverage of the murder of Dr. Tiller, the abortionist, and shootings of two Arkansas military recruiters--one died from his wounds and the other was seriously injured. There is such an obvious double standard in media coverage between the media controlled and funded by liberals as opposed to the conservative leaning media. Ironically, the media that leans to the right is doing far better in the polls than the other medias. For more on the media double standard, click on the link below.

And finally, today is Paul's birthday (Sandy's son). Happy 33rd birthday!

If We Are the Sheeple, Who's Our Shepherd?

A Russian journalist wrote an article for Pravda, a Russian magazine/newspaper, about Americans becoming Marxists. He called the American people "sheeple" for blindly following without even a whimper a government that is rapidly leading them to Marxism. Is this the change that Obama voters wanted? When Obama and his supporters talked about changing the way other nations looked at America (because we were supposedly hated by most other countries), did anyone think that would include other nations looking down on us or laughing at us (like China did yesterday at Tim Geithner)? So who prefers being mocked, scorned, and kicked around by other nations over being the world's leader who is feared by other nations? Seems like a no-brainer, but liberals will vote for being the kicking post.

The American people need to fight against the tyranny coming from Washington, D.C. Of course, if you are like us, you are writing and calling your federal representatives to no avail. We feel like we are voicing our opinion, only to not be heard. We may have to start joining the rallies and even marching in Washington, peaceably of course, to make our voices heard. We're sure that we aren't alone in not wanting to lose our right to choose for ourselves. And we are sure that if we do lose our right to choose, we will not stand blameless before God.

Perhaps the rest of the world should also take note of our government. What makes them think that our tyranny won't spread to them? If oppressors and bullies can control one country, then why not the world?

Tender Mercies

Last week a 24-year-old woman was kidnapped and brutally raped at a Tennessee cabin. In a strange move by her captor, he decided to have pizza delivered to the home. The cabin was thirty miles away from the pizza place, but the manager of the restaurant decided to deliver the pizza anyway, even though the distance was usually out of their delivery zone. The delivery man's wife accompanied him on the trip and waited in the van while the pizza was delivered. As the kidnapper/rapist turned his back to sign the credit card slip, the woman sat up to look over the back of the sofa that had been concealing her and quietly showed her bound hands to the delivery man while mouthing "Call 911." The delivery man returned to the van and told his wife that they needed to find a phone, since their cell phones were out of range. The police came, rescued the woman, and arrested the kidnapper. http://www.ajc.com/services/content/printedition/2009/05/30/pizzaman0530.html

While it's obviously very sad that this woman had to suffer through a kidnapping and rape, it's also gratifying to know that God does know of our troubles and will intervene on our behalf. The kidnapper was either stupid or arrogant in not considering the idiocy of having pizza delivered to a crime scene -- especially when he was the one committing the crime. Then the pizza restaurant decided to deliver to a home out of their normal delivery area. Fortunately, the pizza guy was smart enough to catch on to the situation and keep his cool. Several tender mercies came together to save this young woman's life and release her from bondage.

"We should not underestimate or overlook the power of the Lord’s tender mercies. The simpleness, the sweetness, and the constancy of the tender mercies of the Lord will do much to fortify and protect us in the troubled times in which we do now and will yet live. When words cannot provide the solace we need or express the joy we feel, when it is simply futile to attempt to explain that which is unexplainable, when logic and reason cannot yield adequate understanding about the injustices and inequities of life, when mortal experience and evaluation are insufficient to produce a desired outcome, and when it seems that perhaps we are so totally alone, truly we are blessed by the tender mercies of the Lord and made mighty even unto the power of deliverance."
